You know who that is? That's my angel. KAYLA!!! After watching her Broadway routine with Jason tonight, I have got to say that my angel stays close still near my heart. She is awesome! Her techniques (which are the only things she has got as some people might argue) are FLAWLESS! She has WOW-ed me big time time and time again, and in this blues-jazz Broadway routine, she shimmered, sparkled and sizzled her way through from the very first pose to the last. Her personality may still be as flat as 12-year-old ballerina's chest, but her dancing is UNreal!Mia Micahels actually says that: 'When you look up in the dictionary, "Girl", "Perfection" and "Star", there's a picture of Kayla. *grins*' And I am hoping the best for her. SHE SHOULD BE IN THE FINALS!
Her second item though (a zombie-themed Shane Sparks' routine) was no eye-catcher, but all the same, her double turns were en point and super sharp. I do not have much love for Jason. His performance quality is just lacking, like in the Broadway routine, should he be replaced by some other random guy taken fresh off the streets, I would not notice the difference. I am just glad that he has stopped his smooching-spree, because that trait is really not very flattering. Despite all these compliments on Kayla, the Broadway routine did not have the BOOM BOOM POW factor which would make the audience pick up the telephone, so perhaps (God forbids) these two couple might end up in bottom 2.
Speaking for Tyce Diorio's routine, this Emmy nominee has come up with one of the most emotional routine of the season, if not of the whole series. Ade and Melissa (who were reunited after having been separated the week before, a fact which only suggests how rigged this show is) danced a contemporary routine about a woman who was suffering from a breast cancer. It... broke all the judges into tears, except for Ellen who seemed genuinely surprised and somewhat irked to be asked to judge a professional dance competition the technical aspect of which she knew absolutely nothing, but anyway, the dance truly was great. Those lifts and leaps might have appeared simplistic and forgetable, but they were really hard to execute, so kudos to Ade and Melissa for making them looking so effortless. The routine was really impactful, as a result of which the couple may be out of the danger zone. Too bad I am still not a big Ade and Melissa fan.
This week Janette took off her heels and jazzed out together with Evan in a routine choreographed by Sonya Tayeh. I was seriously in awe of her versatility. She's been keeping up with all the ballet-trained dancers on the show pretty damn well, and it was nice to see her personality shone even more now on the show. I've to take notice of the sudden improvement in the video packages this week! We the audience finally got to see more personality coming out, and goof balls, and jokes, and daydreaming about birds and bunnies, which were just delightful!
One last highlight of the show which I just have to mention was the pop jazz routine choreographed by Laurieann Gibson to 'Battlefield' - Jordin Sparks. (Fox really knows how to promote American Idol on the show, special mention for the awesome Idol winner Kris Allen's rendition of Kanye West's 'Heartless', used for Janette and Evan's rumba.) This lastest addition to the show was really a tough love, a fact that is interestingly and actually talked about all over the net. Gibson is known to expect her dancers to pick up her stuff the first time, and so awesome she was that she was arrowed to be the choreographer for the movie 'Honey', starring Jessica Alba and her self (she was the arch nemesis). Gibson was one tough cookie, however the outcome this week was amazing! The dance was both technical and lyrical, kudos to Jeanine for her isolations!
So, let's summarize the night:
The best solo: Jeanine (Her musicality is awesome!)
The best couple: Kayla and Jason
The best routine: Pop jazz by Jeanine and Brandon
The worst routine: Cha cha by Melissa and Ade
Bottom four: Melissa, Janette, Evan and Ade.
For the record, I wish to see more of Janette. She rocks my boat! If I were to pick to two to send home, it'd be Evan and Ade. Sorry. The gurlz are just THAT GOOD this season!
One last mention on the judges, Mary Murphy is really putting 'reality' in this reality TV show! Her comments have for the past two weeks been right, right, right and HONEST! Finally! For goodness' sake! And ELLEN! She's ONE FUNNEE LESBIAN! LOL! I loved the fact that she didn't fake it, that she was sincere with her comments and her lack of technical knowledge on dance. I could listen to her ALL DAY LONG!
Anyway, next week is the 100th episode! Am excited to see the mutated version of Ramalama Bang Bang WITH WADE in it! Can't wait for the park bench and the humming bird routines! Until then,
